I’m Bruce E. Wampler, and I’ve been working in the PC industry since its earliest days (that’s the late 1970’s). I was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 1975 with a BSE in Computer Engineering. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Utah in 1979.

I was a pioneer in the PC software industry. I developed the first spelling checker for a PC (it ran on a Radio Shack TRS-80). I also developed the first true grammar checker for a PC. I’ve written a Java programming book, and developed an Open Source graphical library.

After serving five years on the Roaring Fork School District school board, I’m now off on a new project to build a new web based service.

    Hi Bruce,
I just ran across your blog and I wanted to say , ‘Hi’. I hope all is well with you and your family. I was interested in learning UML and found your book on Amazon. I bought it; very nicely done. You should go back to teaching!

    Take care,
    Bill Manning
